community impact

A Community Hub for Calgary

The New Indo Canadian Centre (NICC) is more than an event venue. It is a shared community space where individuals, families, community organizations, non-profits, cultural groups, professionals and businesses come together to connect, learn, celebrate and contribute.

Located in northeast Calgary, NICC provides flexible and affordable space for community meetings, cultural and social events, workshops, fundraisers, family celebrations, wellness activities, professional programs and community-led initiatives.

Our goal is simple: to make NICC a welcoming, sustainable and increasingly useful community asset for Calgary.

"See how NICC supports Calgary through community events, programs, partnerships, outreach and shared community space."

Our Impact at a Glance

In 2025, NICC hosted: -

  • 192 events and rentals
  • Approximately 20,000 attendees
  • A wide range of community, cultural, family, non-profit and business activities
  • Regular use by community organizations, volunteers, families and professional groups

For 2026, NICC is planning for:

  • More than 300 events and activities
  • Approximately 30,000 attendees
  • Expanded year-round community programming
  • Increased business, professional and community engagement

As participation grows, NICC is also strengthening the systems required to support that growth efficiently and sustainably.

Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Businesses

Through the NICC Business Centre and related initiatives, NICC is creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals and community leaders to connect, collaborate, learn and support one another.

From Community Space to Community Platform

NICC was originally developed primarily as a place for community gatherings and events. That role is

  • Community programs and workshops
  • Cultural and social activities
  • Volunteer-led initiatives
  • Business and professional networking
  • Educational sessions
  • Community partnerships
  • Fundraising and charitable events
  • Youth, family and senior activities
  • Mentoring and knowledge sharing
  • Community leadership and collaboration

This evolution is transforming NICC from primarily a rental facility into a broader community platform.

Building Stronger Community Connections

A major part of NICC’s next stage is improving how we connect with the community. We are working to

  • Community organizations
  • Non-profits
  • Cultural groups
  • Local businesses
  • Volunteers
  • Sponsors
  • Professionals and entrepreneurs
  • Families and residents
  • Program participants
  • Prospective renters and community partners

Improved outreach will allow NICC to identify community needs, communicate opportunities more effectively and build stronger long-term relationships.

Strengthening NICC’s Capacity

Community Outreach

Marketing and Communications

Marketing and Communications

We are developing more structured ways to maintain relationships with community organizations, renters, volunteers, partners and supporters. This includes better contact management, more consistent follow-up and improved communication with different groups in the community.

Marketing and Communications

NICC is developing reusable communication tools, digital content and standardized processes so that programs, rental opportunities and community initiatives can be promoted more consistently and efficiently.

Facility Stewardship

Marketing and Communications

Measuring Our Progress

Increasing facility use creates greater maintenance responsibilities.

NICC is moving toward a more proactive approach that includes preventive maintenance schedules, facility inspections, asset tracking and better issue management.

Our objective is to protect the community asset while minimizing avoidable repairs and disruption.

Measuring Our Progress

Supporting a Sustainable Community Centre

Measuring Our Progress

NICC is committed to measuring community impact rather than simply counting activities.

Areas we monitor include:

  • Number of events and activities
  • Community attendance
  • Number of organizations using the Centre
  • Community inquiries and follow-up
  • Program participation
  • Volunteer involvement
  • Community partnerships
  • Facility utilization
  • Preventive maintenance completion
  • Community feedback

These measures help NICC understand where the Centre is creating value and where additional attention is required.

Supporting a Sustainable Community Centre

Supporting a Sustainable Community Centre

Supporting a Sustainable Community Centre

NICC operates with a combination of facility revenues, community support, donations, sponsorships, fundraising, volunteer involvement and organizational partnerships.

Our long-term objective is to maintain a financially and operationally sustainable community facility that can continue serving Calgary for future generations.

Investments in systems, technology, equipment and organizational capacity allow NICC to make better use of its existing resources and reduce reliance on continual increases in operating costs.

  • Support entrepreneurs and growing businesses
  • Mentor emerging professionals and business owners

The Business Centre supports NICC’s larger objective of building stronger connections across Calgary’s community.

Our Commitment

NICC’s growth is not measured only by the number of events held in the building.

We measure success by the connections created, organizations supported, people brought together and opportunities made possible through the Centre.

As NICC continues to grow, our priority is to strengthen the systems, partnerships and community relationships that allow us to serve Calgary effectively and sustainably.

Connect. Collaborate. Grow.
